What special precautions should I follow?
Before taking Dipyrone:
Please note that this medication is used with increased caution in patients with a history for hypersensitivity to foods and drugs (particularly to analgesic and nonsteroidal antiinflammatory agents) and also in patients suffering from bronchial asthma, Quincke’s edema, or chronic pulmonary infections. In patients with hypotension and unstable blood pressure, dipyrone should not be used parentarally.
Dipyrone potentiates the analgesic and antipyretic action of nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs. The dipyrone effects are potentiated by the tricyclic antidepressants, oral contraceptive agents, allopurinol, and also alcohol.
Dipyrone also decreases the activity of the coumarin anticoagulants and plasma levels of cyclosporin.
The enzyme inductors (barbiturates, glutethimide, and phenylbutazone) attenuate the dipyrone effects.
So too, concurrent administration with chlorpromazine is related with a risk of severe hypothermia.
If dipyrone application is quite necessary, the blood pressure and the heart rate should be monitored. In cases of prolonged dipyrone treatment, regular blood count checks are necessary (differential count of the white blood cells).
Additionally, high dipyrone doses can influence unfavourably a person's reaction time. Because of this, driving and working with machines are not advised.
